　　Some of America’s biggest Chinese-cinema themed events take place in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York because all three major cities have huge Chinese populations. Yet in the booming film market that is Washington, D.C., there is also a desire for Chinese films. The D.C. Chinese Film Festival, which was held from September 4-7, met that need. The event selected 68 titles from 332 submitted films in 29 countries in order to present a well-rounded sample of what independent filmmakers are producing in China. The event was a huge success and many of the more high-profile screenings were greeted with sold-out theatres.

　　The event is currently set to take place once every two years, but those in charge of the festival are open to the idea of making it a yearly event. They will be holding regular events focused on Chinese cinema in order to keep building uptheir brand.
